Scientific Information:
          Sapphire forms in molten rock that slowly cools below the Earth’s surface commonly known as igneous rocks. Sapphire is a variation of corundum; another commonly heard variation is rubies. Sapphires are known for their royal blue hue but they can come in many other colors, excluding red. Synthetic sapphires are often used in windows.

Revealed by Man:
          Sapphires were first mined in Kashmir, Pakistan in the late 1800s because they encouraged holiness for those deemed royal. Currently, sapphires are commercially mined for in Australia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, East Africa and mostly a single location in North America, Montana.

Legend and Lore:
          Sapphires symbolize wisdom and robust self-esteem. Sapphires promote virtue and good luck. In engagement rings and wedding rings alike, sapphires stands for sincerity, trust, respect, communication, and faithfulness.

Peridot was first mined by Ancient Egyptians, sought after for the beauty and safety peridot was fabled to provide. There have been several investigations on whether or not Cleopatra’s collection of emeralds was in fact peridot. Peridot is Arizona’s state stone and is largely mined there.

Legend and Lore:
Peridot has often been tied to light and the sun. It was believed to protect people from the dangers of the night and evil spirits. Peridot is also believed to promote inspiration in dreamers and seekers.

Scientific Information:
Peridot forms deep within the Earth and is brought to the surface with the force of volcanoes. Considered semi-precious as a cousin of olivine.
